MORE INFORMATION HERE

Please join the National Academies’ Committee on Law and Justice for a workshop discussing the relationship between the criminal justice system and social exclusion, with a special focus on differences across race, gender, and ethnicity.

Sessions will address issues such as the following:

  • How do disparities in criminal justice processing put people at differential risk for exposure to collateral consequences of criminal justice system involvement, broadly defined?
  • How are the consequences of criminal justice system involvement experienced differently across racial/gendered/ethnic lines?
  • What are the ways in which elements of criminal justice (policing, sentencing, prison policies, policies about felony convictions) contribute to social exclusion of individuals or communities?
  • What is known about actual and aspirational policies and practices to reduce social exclusion resulting from criminal justice system involvement?
